Circulatory System Information
The Circulatory System is made up of various vessels and muscles that work to control the flow of blood throughout the body. The process of controlling the flow of blood is called circulation. The main parts within the system are the heart, arteries, capillaries and veins. As the blood begins to circulate it enters into a complex procedure that begins with blood leaving the heart from the left ventricle and into the aorta. The aorta, which is the largest artery in the body contains blood filled with oxygen. The oxygen rich blood is essential for the brain and body to do their work. When the oxygen rich blood leaves the aorta it travels within its system of arteries into the smallest arterioles. Once the blood has traveled through the smallest arterioles, it makes its way back to the heart. On the way back to the heart the blood travels through a system of veins. As it reaches the lungs the CO2 is removed from the blood and replaced by oxygen that has been inhaled through our lungs.
